Patient Information
What to expect when you visit
Appointment Types
Your initial consultation is aimed at getting to know you, your goals and the reason for your visit. This generally involves taking a history and doing a clinical examination including orthopaedic, neurological, and postural testing. Imaging (eg. Xray, EOS) will be requested if clinically indicated, and you may be referred to another health practitioner (eg. GP) if there are particular concerns before commencing treatment. Your first appointment may include treatment if your clinician feels it is safe to do so.
The second appointment termed ‘report of findings’ is a slightly longer appointment allowing time for discussion about your diagnosis, results of imaging if this was requested, and the formulation of a plan for your care. This appointment includes treatment.
Standard treatments will then form the mainstay of your visits and may include joint manipulation, mobilization, soft tissue therapy, rehabilitation, strapping/ bracing, cupping and
exercise prescription.
Book in for a ‘review – long appointment’ if you are a previous patient of our clinic who hasn’t been to see us for over 6 months, or if you have been visiting us for a long time and have a new issue or would just like a longer appointment. We also generally like to book this type of appointment for you after 12 visits, to measure progress and make sure we are on the right track.
When you first book
When you first book your initial consultation, you will receive an email to confirm the booking and containing a link to a ‘new patient intake form’. This will ask you for contact details, as well as what you would like treatment for, your past medical history, and a signed consent form for treatment.
This form can be completed in the office at the time of your appointment, but so that you get the most out of your booking time, please complete it before your initial appointment.
On the day, please wear comfortable clothing (gym clothes).
If your treatment plan includes specific exercises or rehabilitation, you will receive an email within 48h after your visit containing a link. This will take you to the VALD hub system, which is a user friendly interface we use which contains personalised, high quality, easily understood videos to guide you at home.
Should you need to cancel or change your booking, you can use the link provided in your booking confirmation email, however please give us at least 24 hours notice. While we understand that unforeseen circumstances happen, we won’t be able to fill your booking within this time period.
We look forward to seeing you at Carbon!
