Frequently Asked Questions
Will I get treated on the first visit?
The initial consultation consists of a thorough history and clinical examination including orthopaedic, neurological, and postural assessments. Imaging will be arranged if indicated, and you may be referred to another health practitioner (eg. GP) if there are particular concerns before commencing treatment. That said, your first appointment will usually include treatment if your clinician feels it is safe to do so.
Can I claim through my private health fund?
Yes, you can. Just check with your health fund to see whether your premium includes chiropractic.
We use HICAPS, which accepts all Australian private health funds as well as Medicare. If you have forgotten your private health card, don’t worry – you can now tap and claim through your phone (check if your insurer’s app supports this).
How many treatments do I need?
This is one of the most common questions asked.
It depends on the reason for your visit: whether your pain is acute or chronic, and how much this affects your day-to-day life. If you are an athlete going through rehab or looking to refine performance, your starting point and your goals will determine your treatment plan.
We pride ourselves in honesty and transparency at Carbon; we will be clear about our recommendations from the get-go, and will never upsell a service beyond what you really need. We will give you options to choose from that suit your budget and schedule, and then work alongside you as you make progress.
Can I exercise/train after my treatment?
Light to moderate exercise is beneficial after a treatment, as it promotes blood flow, which helps the body’s healing process. Exercise such as walking, bike riding and swimming can all be beneficial; however, try to avoid vigorous and explosive exercises such as weightlifting, jumping, and plyometrics immediately after treatment, as these place significant stress on the muscles, ligaments and joints, which may lessen the treatment benefit.
It is also best to avoid sitting for long periods immediately afterwards – if you work in an office, check the ergonomics of your desk space, and try to keep moving as much as you can.
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
Adjustments are still the most common chiropractic treatment, and what chiro is known for (although it is only a small part of what we do!). An adjustment is a quick, small force applied in a specific way to a joint to increase movement, eliminate restriction in the joint and provide pain relief.
For more information on why and how adjustments work, check out our blog post What is a chiropractic adjustment and what’s that cracking sound? which contains more detail.
