What does chiropractic care, including sports remedial massage, have to do with strength and athletic performance?
With his background in personal training and passion for lifting, Kirill takes a sports oriented approach to chiropractic care, focusing on optimising strength and performance.
Since 1980, athletes at the Olympic Games have relied on chiropractic care, including sports remedial massage, and many major sporting organisations around the world continue to do the same. At the 2013 World Games, athletes who received chiropractic care—featuring sports remedial massage, soft tissue therapy, adjustments, taping, and mobilisation—experienced immediate improvement, with 86% reporting positive results.

Here’s how chiropractic care, including sports remedial massage, can benefit athletes:
Additionally, the prescription of exercise to improve strength, movement, and power for specific goals (such as increasing a lift PB, improving a golf swing or beating a track time) requires a knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics and pathology. Incorporating sports remedial massage into your routine can further boost your recovery, relieve muscle tension, and keep you prepared for peak performance every time. At Carbon, we combine chiropractic care to help you reach your full athletic potential.
Kinesiology Tape is a stretchy, elastic tape often applied specifically to injured joints to support the underlying muscles.
For example, for tennis elbow, tape applied over the forearm muscles can help with pain relief and take the load off the irritated or injured muscle during the grip and swing of the racquet.
How exactly this works isn’t yet 100% evident, but studies suggest the tape helps facilitate muscle activity, and part of this includes its effect on skin receptors.
Cupping is a type of soft tissue therapy that uses soft cups to create suction on the skin, lifting or mobilising the underlying myofascial tissue. Cupping increases blood flow to the area, reduces muscle tension, and can increase connective tissue mobility. It can also help relieve pain in the affected area.
We use medical-grade silicone cups, which are safe and easy to apply. After treatment, you may have some minor bruising, but this will generally disappear within a few days.
What is optimal sports performance? To maximise your golf swing, for example, you need maximal mobility of your shoulder, back, and hips, as well as strength and force generation for a powerful, full-range swing.
If a joint is not moving properly, this will cause pain, tightness, and/or stiffness and altered movement patterns. Over time, this can result in chronic pain and structural imbalances and predispose to injury.
Chiropractors analyse movement to detect restrictions and imbalances and create a treatment plan that aims to maximise range, mobility, and strength and prevent injury.
Chiropractic care complements strength training by ensuring your body functions at its best. Soft tissue therapy, adjustments, taping, cupping, and specific exercise prescriptions to target problematic movement patterns will help with joint range, mobility, balance, and force generation.
